I did my own porting. I have a good die grinder and a set of carbide burrs.
They cut cast
iron like butter. It took a solid 20 hrs. It's pretty simple and I followed
Kastners
recomendations carefully. A shop would charge 4-$500. I bought the OS/SS valves
from
Moss, but they're available from TRF too. I bought bronze valve guides from TRF
and used
Moss TT valve springs. I brought all the stuff to Martyn Motors in Morrisville,
PA. They
milled the head .70" (it was already milled .20"), installed the valve guides,
put
hardened seats in all eight, gave it an excellent 3 angle valve job, took a
clean-up cut
off the manifold face, and repaired a stripped manifold hole--all for about
$275. I had
Rocker Arm Specialists rebuild my rockers with spacers instead of springs--
about $90 (an
excellent deal!) I used a solid copper head gasket from Mordy Dunst and a
Silicone
valve cover gasket from our very own Justin Wagner. I heartily recomend all of
these
vendors based on my experience so far...as always YMMV...

The result -- it pulls right past the %$#@# redline, runs smoother and gets
MAJOR second
gear rubber -- huge, huge smiles! I still have a cam and 4.1 gears to put in...
(Make
sure your cooling system is up to snuff.)
