Early TR4s (like mine!) have a very fast steering, 2.5 turns lock to lock.
I think Moss has been remanufacturing the rack unit, and will gladly take
your money in exchange. I'm pretty sure it would be direct bolt in, and
coupled with a slightly smaller wheel gives you super-quick response...

It's funny, the work van bought new in 1984 was a base model, equipped
with 3-speed manual trans. Similar van, bought 1996, is automatic-
also for the base model. Seems that ideas as to what constitutes a 'base
model' have changed-- but it sure makes it easy to drive! Power steering was
another nice addition...
