This is a spin-on oil filter, right?
In my experience, you can only get these stuck if you over-tighten them
(duh!). NEVER use a wrench to tighten a spin-on filter! Only use them to
loosen!
I only ever tighten an oil filter with my hand... usually I can get them
off without much fuss that way. Hasn't leaked yet.
My brother used a wrench on his Sunbird (2.5L Iron Duke), we had to pop a
screwdriver through it to get enough torque to break it free.
I think it's a better idea to invest in a good filter wrench, in case you
come across a stuck filter, and be wise about your own filter changes.
Having the means to over-tighten something just invites someone to lay a
wrench on it and get it stuck.
