Hi Everyone,

OK.....I looked at my valves last night.  Not in any real need of an 
adjustment.  BUT...........here is what I discovered.

I checked the travel of the pistons inside each carb and saw that they were 
free.  What I did notice is that the front carb piston would fall flush with 
the carb body but the rear piston was binding about 1/8 inch above the body.  I 
figure OK......center the jet.

Can't center it becuase it is already centered.  Then I start thinking.....OK 
wrong needle.  Check the needle stamping for the carb and it appears to be 
correct.  

Then I get an epiphany( I wish they could bottle these things).  The front carb 
has 1825 stamped on it and the rear has 3609.  1825 was for a TR4 but the 3609 
is for a TR4A.  When I ordered my rebuild kits, I was unaware of my two 
different carbs and as such, bought kits for two TR4 carbs.  Jets are different 
for each carb so.......
 

I went spare parts bin, got the old jet, installed it and PRESTO CHANGO the 
piston seats flush.  Now I'm thinking that this was the root of all my 
problems.  Unfortunately it was already 1:30 at night and I couldn't really run 
the engine.  I did start her up a few seconds and she did not shake.

We'll see what happens when I retune her and redo the timing.  I'm optimistic 
to say the least.  

Many thanks to everyone on this list.  While I still know nothing about these 
cars, I know a lot more than when I first purchased one.  This list is 
extremely educating.
