Ah, the old Thrust washer thread will now resurface...

And why is there excessive crankshaft endfloat??

I don't think there is an economical alternate solution if the block is
damaged, but you didn't mention damage to the Crankshaft, so it may not be too
bad. If the groove in the block will hold new (standard or oversize)
thrustwashers and the clearance is propper, you can give it another try...

Don't ride the clutch, keep the transmission in neutral or in gear with the
clutch engaged. Clutch pedal to the floor is where most of the thrustwasher
wear comes from.
