TR3 engine:

        1. I have measured my pistons and bore at 3.405 and 3.415 inches
respectively. Doing the conversion, this comes out to 86.5 cm and 86.7 cm
respectively. Are these so-called 87 mm pistons? I have a 86 mm ring set,
assuming initially that they were 86 mm and notice it says that the rings are
oversize. Do I need to exchange them for an 87 mm set? The holes in the head
gasket and the figure of eight gaskets seem plenty big enough. No problems
there I presume - or do I presume wrongly?

        2. There are a series of vertical holes on the head. One of the last
ones (about level with the last valve spring) has an air-line fitting, like a
nozzle coming out of it vertically!!! The engine was running, so presumably it
didn't interfere with anything too much. Should I try to take it out? I don't
think it can be threaded. What is it for? It doesn't match anything in the
parts books.

Please reply direct!! Any advice gratefully received.

Cheers,

Nigel
