Thanks Bob - it needed to be said. Just be thankful you don't live in
British Columbia where our government has spent millions on an advertising
campaign based on "Speed Kills" and are actually paying the overtime for
members of the RCMP to lurk behind bushes dressed in reflective clown
suits with their radar guns. We also have a really neat photo radar
system that was designed to bring in an extra $100 million a year to
the government coffers in fines, that is running at a deficit and only
brought in a measly $35 million last year. Meanwhile we get to listen
to these ridiculous commercials on "Speed Kills" while we drive down
highways with a speed limit of 80 kph (about 48 mph) following the
typical "geezer" who knows well that "Speed Kills" and motors along
at 70 kph and slows down a half mile in advance of a curve sign that
could safely be negotiated at 100 kph. The 30 or 40 cars following
him are getting their lesson that "Speed Kills" while looking for an
opening to pass.

Despite the initial assurances from both the police and government that
the photo radar units would only be in operation in areas of high accident
or danger spots, the units can now be found anywhere where they are likely
to bring in a lot of dollars (at the bottom of long hills, etc.).

Ah, the wonders of new technologies.
