Blow it out your tailpipe

Does adding the resonator to the exhaust system of a TR3 make it sound like 
every other car on the road? I would like to keep a nice tone, but the 
glasspack I have on now has gotta go, its just too loud.  So, I'm debating 
on adding the resonator or just running a straight pipe from the new 
muffler.  Also, has anyone had any luck finding a local muffler shop who 
can install an "off the shelf" muffler, so that I don't have to order one?
