That is the position I am in.  A section of veneer may have had
deteriorated
glue under it and it peeled up despite my attempts to prevent it.  Maybe
not hot enough gun.  The rest of the veneer is VERY hard to lift up.
I will probably have to sand it off or use steam to lift it off.  It is
just that
the remaining finish will probably prevent the steam from getting through.

What veneer did you use? 

 Walnut, I guess.  It looks like the figure of
the wood corresponds to "rotary cut"  Maybe "butt cut".  I like the burl
figure, although it is not the wa the car was originally fitted.

I will also use gloss spar urethane.  I'd like to reproduce the
depth of the finish.  Maybe I can get some of that 2-part epoxy
clear gloss stuff.  the original finish was THICK!
