No need to apologize, Randall. 
I responded basically to share my concurrence with the finding in the spare
parts book.
I DO wish that there was a spare parts book (and factory repair manual, for
that matter) for the post 60000 to 3B cars that is as complete as those for
the pre 60000 cars.
My current understanding, through kind and generous responses on this list, is
that the stanchions for post 60000 (approx.) had a smooth (no key) face on the
scuttle side. 
Both of my donor cars (post 60000) had slotted stanchions in the box of
spares........go figure.
