OK, how about leaving the flasher you have and just wiring a buzzer,
Sonalert (solid state warning device) or even an old relay that makes a
goodly "CLICK" across the output. You can even place the device in a
location where you might hear it better, maybe even mount the relay to a
piece of metal behind the dash that would amplify the click. Not very
authentic, but just a thought.
