The trip so far:
Friday, 23 July 99: Leave St. Louis at about 2:45 and head east
on I 70. The TR6 with overdrive and cruise control cruises down
the freeway with ease. Only one problem: It is HOT! And the lack
of air conditioning makes for a hard core enthusiast. But we are
not so hard core as all of those motorcycle riders out there. We
drive 400 miles to Dayton OH before calling it a day.
Saturday, 24 July 99: Leave Dayton AM with the aim to get as far
as we can into New England (hopefully) We do cover another 600
miles to Utica, NY and leave the interstate at that point. We take
highway 12 and 28 deep into the Adarondac mountains and spend
the night in Old Forge. Total miles so far: 1050. Consumables:
Gas: 39 Gal (US), Oil: none.
Sunday, 25 July 99: Continue our tour of the Adarondacs following
a path that ends up at Ft. Tyconderoga. We tour the fort. Then we
proceed northward to Quebec City (one of my favorite places) and
spend the night in a little Hotel/Restaraunt in Vieux Quebec. Spend
$100 on souvenirs, $100 on dinner (this is in Canadian money so
it doesn't count), watch a street performer, wander around town
and enjoy the chilly weather. Total miles so far: 1525. Consumables:
Gas: 58 Gal (US), Oil: none.
Monday, 26 July 99: photograph the TR6 in front of (and behind)
Chateau Frontenac (for proof), take the tour of the Citidel and depart
for Nova Scotia. Umm... boy is it far. Don't look like we'll make it
that far but we did make it to St. John, New Brunswick and the
Bay of Fundy (which, I believe has the most dramatic tidal zone
in the world.) Total miles so far: 1939. Consumables: Gas: 73
Gal (US), Oil: none so far but it is getting real close to needing
the first quart since the oil change.
Tomorrow: who knows. We have a day and a half to get to
Portland.
