Hi all

I've been looking into restoring my 6's OD functionality since buying
the car a little over a month ago. Had the transmission tunnel off it
over the weekend and discovered why I was getting strange measurements
through the switches.

Someone (not naming names here) had rewired it through the selt belt
interlock switch on the transmission top cover instead of the 3rd/4th
interlock switch. The 3rd/4th switch gave resistance measurements of
about 150-200 ohms so that explains why it was rewired, not enough
current to operate the solenoid through that switch. I simply swapped
the seatbelt and 3rd/4th switches to put the good one where it was
needed. The seat belt one only needs pass a small current so all is
well. The solenoid even clicks when the column switch is down and it's
in 3rd or 4th gear. So far, so good.

Except the OD still doesn't kick in when actually driving. My plan now
is to take the pump/filter/and relief valve out the bottom to clean any
sludge from those areas. (The OD apparently hasn't worked in over 12+
years)

Anything else I can try before doing this?
Any tips on taking these things out?
Any gotchas in doing this without the OD sitting on a bench instead on
under the car?
What is safe to use to clean these parts, Varsol?
What oil goes back into the tranny, as I expect a lot to run out? (I've
bought 80W90 gear oil from Canadian Tire, is that OK?)

I'll report on my findings, if any, as I fear the OD may have been
engaged while in reverse or 1st gear as the wiring through the selt belt
switch theorectically allowed the OD to kick in in any gear, except
neutral which is the only time that switch is open.
