Before the bio, one final apology for dragging out the McD coffee string.
Anybody wanna know what I think about religion....
Bio: Born 1951 in the Deep South, raised just north of New Orleans. First
car: a 1960 Hillman Minx, which started my perverted fascination with British
cars. Rat raced it through country roads and abandoned subdivisions, wrecked
it several times, discovered that a beer can jammed between the block and the
generator would substitute for a broken bracket.
Second car: 1967 TR4A IRS while in Rhodes College, Memphis. Majored in
anthropology.
Third car: VW convertible, hippie days
Fourth car: 1967 Fury III convertible
Fifth car: 1987 Ford Fiesta Sport (the German Ford -- sorry, guys, but it
would really eat up Spitfires)
None of the other cars count, until two years ago, when I bought a 1962 TR3B,
sight unseen, and had it shipped home. Now in the midst of a frame-off
restoration, learning all the necessary skills as I go along.
Sometime in the mid-70s I discovered that I could make a sort of living
writing. Spent several years working with alternative weeklies, editing
newspapers, worked offshore on oil rigs when broke.
In 1986, I found a great job -- public relations director for the state
teacher union. I still get paid for writing AND indulging my taste for
progressive politics (and don't mind being called liberal).
My first wife departed in 1985, the kids (two boys) stayed with me. My second
wife -- 12 years now -- convinced me that I should buy the TR3. Is she great
or what? Oldest son starting college this year, the second is a junior in
high school.
Hobbies: Restoring our 1950s modern house, water gardening, the TR3, and
writing occasional freelance pieces (I'm very late with an article for
British Car, but if you're reading this, Gary, I swear it will be on your
desk soon. I really have been busy).
In fact, I've been too busy to work on the TR3 for a few months. But I will
get back to it as soon as I finish the garage...
That's about it. Probably more than you want to know.
