Hi, Jack. Sometimes I think the only way to work under a TR6 is with either
a hoist or a pit in my garage, but....

...while I must make do with a jack, I do! I support the front at exactly
the location of the axles, along the main frame, while at the back, as there
is no comparable equivalent due to the IRS, I support the rear using the
beams holding the trailing arm mounts. Since there is not a whole lot of
weight behind the rear wheels, I don't worry about having the blocks along
the rear main beams. Besides, as they start to curve upward rear of the
wheels, it's difficult (and dangerous) to support at that point.

Auto ramps are too abrupt in their effort to raise a car, IMO. With a TR6,
you would likely bottom out the rear end driving on to them, and I wouldn't
like to try reversing onto them, either. I support my cars using different
size chunks of hardwood (6x6, 4x6,2x4), building up the car gradually. I
save a little effort by using 'ramps' of my own made out of 2 2x10 pieces of
wood, the top piece about a foot long and the bottom piece about 18" long,
all with bevelled edges. I know that's the most time-consuming part of the
whole process, and why I've contemplated a pit of my own. Often I drive to
our club "guru's" house and use his pit.

Cheers, JD

I have a small hydraulic jack that I have been using to lift my car
for
tire/wheel changes. After changing my oil for the first time last
night, it
seems like jack stands would be a good idea to ease the effort
required to
        replace the filter canister, etc.

What are the proper locations for jack stands on a TR6 (4 corners)?

I am currently jacking up the entire side of the car by placing the
jack on
the frame at the middle of the door when I change tires. I don't
know if I
can get it up on jack stands by doing one side at a time. I seems
like
jacking up the front and then the rear (if I had to) might be a
better
        solution.

What are the proper locations in the front and rear for a hydraulic
jack?

As an alternative to jack stands, does anyone use the auto ramps
with their
        TR6?
