I'm not sure I can help you on the low pressure front in terms of used
stuff - I'm in the middle of a PI retrofit to a LHD carb TR6 and I am
fitting a Facit solid state fuel pump to feed the Lucas unit. They run
about $30 over here, about the same as the cost of used pump from a junkyard.
Incidentally, my son has an 84 VW GTI with a Bosch fuel pump located near
the rearwheel arch. This is a high pressure setup (well, that's what the
Haynes FI manual says), and it doesn't suffer from vapour locking. You
might be able to find one of these at a junkyard and sub. the Bosch unit
for the Lucas unit and have done with it - I know that this is a popular
retrofit for the PI equipped cars.
On the weather front - just spent an hour snow blowing the drive so I could
get the car up the darned slope! Haven't had the '6 on the road for 3
weeks now (too much slush/salt and now full blown white stuff by the foot),
and missing it a lot! I'd even risk a high speed collision with a wombat
to get a little of your weather right now.

You call that hot! Over here it's been between 35 and 37 degrees
Celcius for the past five days (95 - 100ish deg F) - not really
the most pleasant weather for driving a PI TR6, as the fuel pump
overheats and get vapour lock after about 20 minutes of driving.
Must get around to buying a priming pump soon, but it's too damn
hot to go to a wrecker...
