Erkan, it is my understanding that the same lubricant should be used in the
gearbox, diff, steering box and trunnions of a TR3...90 wt hypoid gear oil.
GL4 should be used rather than the more readily available GL5. Most auto
stores don't seem to carry GL4, but it is available at PEP Boys or Sears
Hardware.

Dear Listers,

I think this should be an easy question for the wisdom of the list.

Should the lubricant used in the gearbox be the same or different as
the lubricant used in the rear axle?

I fear the lubricants in those 2 systems of my 62 TR3B have not been
changed for quite a while and I am planning to drain and replace.

Regardless of the answer to the above, what specific type and grade
of lubricant are people using/advocating for these systems?

Thanks
Erkan Hassan
