Roy,

TR6's and all the "new" TR's had a coolant recovery system that will retain
all excess coolant in a recovery bottle with the net effect of keeping the
cooling system "air free."  This may be done for the reason you point out
here.

The TR7's and 8's (as well as my Ford Tarus) have a pressurized expansion
tank that sequestures any air in a small tank constructed of copper (in the
case of the TR's and plastic in the case of the Tarus).
