Cameron:

Your front brake hose(s) are shot. There is a small flap of rubber inside
one or both of the hoses that is preventing the return of the brake fluid
you "forced" past it using (literally) many foot-pounds of strength. The
inherent vacuum in the line that ought to retract your pads cannot overcome
this blockage.

Consider running stainless braided hoses on (at least) the front, and do
replace the rear hoses as well. The feel of the stainless hoses is superb.
Then adjust your rear brake shoes to specifications (just skims the drum),
and feel the incredible difference in braking. It is really amazing how
straight and well this car can stop when the systems are set up right.
Finally, check your rotors closely for warpage; they don't like to glow on a
regular basis (looked great at night through the spokes though!).
