Dzus Fasteners

I recently purchased a set of side curtains for my TR3A. The curtains
were missing their Dzus fasteners. I purchased 4 fasteners and the metal
grommets (washers). My question is : How do I get the grommet to stay on
the fastener ( it is obviously too big )? I have looked at another set
of curtains that I have and the grommet will not slide off the end of
the Dzus fastener. What am I missing here? TIA
