I've tried that on a different car, my advice is DON'T DO IT !

For $15 and a trip to your local Home Depot, you can build a suitable spring 
compressor.  Get some 3/4" threaded rod, 3 nuts, 2 flat washers, and some 1" 
wide flat steel (ask back in construction materials, I found some flat steel 
stakes used for anchoring concrete forms).
