Cars must be 81 or newer, I used it for my newer cars, gives dates, state,
mileage and type of title issued.

There is a website in the US called Carfax.com which is a database that
searches for information on VIN's. It tells you information related to the
vehicle such as when it was titled , mileage, whether it was
rebuilt/salvaged, flooded, etc. I was using this to research vehicles I am
thinking of purchasing (daily commute) and tried to see if there was any
info on my TR6 in their database. I don't know how far back their records
go. The problem I ran into is that you must put in a 17 digit VIN. My TR6
only has am 8 digit VIN and I could not get it to work by filling zeros
either before or after the number. Has anyone successfully done this?
