Pat,

There is a piece of laminated wood (3/8" plywood will do) that goes between 
the aluminum and vinyl.  You cannot just cut the cover  to fit the aluminum 
back plate.  You need to shape the plywood so that it fits properly and 
doesn't interfere with the bottom hinge when opening.  Your best bet would be 
to find someone that is local and is willing to lend you their glove box door 
so that you can shape it properly.  The vinyl covers the front of the plywood 
and is wrapped around the edge with about 5/8"-3/4" vinyl covering the back 
of the plywood which is then stapled.  The vinyl covered plywood is then 
attched to the aluminum backing plate with screws.
