Door Weatherstripping

Does the weather-strip inside the doors on a 4A cover not only the flange
that sticks out but the channel that is just on the outside edge of the
flange? I noted in one of the catalogs where they said that -- if the
channel was gone, use the 250/6 item. In this car, much but not all of the
channel is gone. And some I cut away but not all. Should I cut away what's
left and go for the 250/6 item? Is it wide enough that it will cover what's
left of the channel? Also, is there a 'standard' or generic weather strip
that I can get at a local store for inside the door frames of my 65 4A? Or is
what's stocked by the big three (and others) sufficiently specific that I
should get it from them.
As always, TIA.
