Bob: By far the best and least damaging tool to use on the eared knock-offs is about a two pound rawhide faced hammer. Even when using the rawhide hammer I will wrap a shop towel around the ear I am pounding on. Without doubt the most worthless apparatus is the laminated wood piece that fits over the knock-off - good only for firewood and not much more!
