cleaning solution

having not used cleaning solution on parts yet.........i was
curious.......does it take several days of soaking to get parts clean.?? I
just noticed in the past posts that some were soaking for several
days......i am setting up a  home made parts washer and was assuming that
one just scrubbed and they got cleaned up!!!
