>First long run of the season!! I am used to oil pressure at first start
up
of around 60-70 lbs. then when warm running at speed around 45lbs. idling
around 25lbs.

however today it would not run over 20-25.......even revving would not
raise.

My question is.......is there a way to check pressure straight from the
engine somehow??? bypassing the guage to see if the guage is sticking?
or anything else to check??

Gary, You can disconnect the gauge sense line at the block and screw in
another gauge (hopefully one that is known good).

If they both read 25 psi then you should check for a broken spring in the
pressure relief valve. Fortunately this is easy to access.
