First of all I would like to bring to your attention the
excellent service provided by Peter Caldwell at World
Wide Auto Parts. He found a pair of excellent used
shock links for a very good price and had them on my
doorstep the next day. Cheap, fast, and he threw in some
good advice free of charge. I highly recommend his service(NFI).
The loud clunking I heard in the right rear of my TR4A (IRS)
may have come from the lever shock. Both of the bolts
were so loose that the shock body could be moved
by hand on the frame. Although I was apprehensive about
removal being laborious, given the recent thread on the topic,
the shcok link and lever shock were easily removed from
the car and the old rotten shock link came out with a
minimum of gentle persuasion. The lever provides stiff
resistance in both directions but the outboard hole is noticeably
elongated. Am I correct in thinking this is not the way the
gents in Coventry intended? If so it appears that replacement is
the only option, as it would be unrealistic to expect to be
able to bolt the thing on tightly enough to prevent it from working
loose.
Anybody have any advice or clever ideas?
