Best place is a  top corner of the radiator (heat rises), but on some
applications (like on my Jensen Interceptor Convertible) the center side is
acceptable.  Where-ever you stick the probe in the fins- a lot depends on
the flexibility you have from the base mounting. You will find that when the
'low' temp setting cuts off the fan, the center of the radiator will be
cool- then by internal thermosiphon - the radiator will reheat from
conduction. When the temp rises to the preset level, then the fan trips on
again.  If your thermister is adjustable- then placement is secondary issue
to adjustment  on/off temps.

As for some comments about the fans cycling on and off after one shuts the
engine down- that's exactly what you do want! - In fact when at  Jensen
Intereceptor National gatherings, and the cars are all parked,aligned in the
sun- they 'talk to each other'- very neat!- Music to live for, 2nd only to
exhaust tonals!

You have to appreciate the nature of 'What's happening'!
