I rebuilt my TR3 engine,, quite some time ago.. never really run, to much.
It has a ticking or slight clatter noise in the engine,, Sounds so much like
a really noisey valve, but I have adjusted them several times,, always with
little change. I put the 86mm piston/sleeve units in, and balanced the
engine. Seems to run a little rough but not bad,, just installed rebuilt
carbs and got them in sync. The noise is not noticeable while running the
engine with the valve cover off as I hear all the normal valve clearance
noise, but with the valve cover on,, it's ticking. Sounds like it coming
from the rear cylinder or next to the rear. I also notice the exhast from
the tail pipe seems to be somewhat "uneven". Maybe a compression check
should be next,, could it be a broken ring?
