Yes, take it out, patch it & paint it.

Leaking gas removes paint, then the rust comes, & that's a horrible place on 
the body to let corrosion get a start.

Isn't that tank emissions setup on the 71 GT6 creepy?

Everything in the car looks nice & reassuringly mechanical, then you take 
out the luggage floor above the gas tank & see all those lines running 
around & into the tank, & it looks more organic than mechanical.  Like some 
organ in an animal's abddomen with a bunch of nerves or ducts attached to 
it.

Subject: Gas tank octopus

So, in the process of dismantling the GT6 (1971), I discover that the fuel
tank has this array of vent lines sprouting from every corner (total of 5),
which all wind about the boot and eventually empty into this little (~2 
liter)
puke tank nestled up in the right wing. Joining this collection is a
contributing line from the evaporates cannister in the front. As I was
wiggling the small tank about while removing it, the distinct odour of well
aged gas wafted up and sure enough, the seam along one end appeared to be
leaking. I assume this mess is yet another rather awkward attempt at meeting
some emmission regulation or other (my factory shop manual makes no 
reference
to it). I don't particularly want to mend the tank  if it is, in reality,
doing diddly squat, so I'm looking for input. Should I:

a) just hook up the line from the evaporates can to the main tank, throw out
the puke tank and seal the rest?
b) seal off the whole works because they aren't really doing anything 
anyway?
c) bite the bullet, steam out the puke tank,  get it resoldered and 
reassemble
the whole works?
