Piggott shows the steel portion of the motor housing as gloss black,
although the one on my car appears to've been dark brown, and I've seen
them restored with crinkle black. The aluminum bits (motor end plate,
gear housing) are left natural, while the steel gear housing cover and
cable housing attachment nut are cadmium plated.
