The factory hoses are special "inner-spring" hoses, to prevent the crimp.
The only other solution I know of is to replace the bends with hard line of
some sort.  1/2" copper elbows (as used for home plumbing) and short lengths
of 1/2" tubing might work.

Gates does sell an equivalent 1/2" 'spring' heater hose, but it's even more
expensive than the ones from Moss/TRF, and not commonly found in parts
stores.
