An engineer, a physicist and a mathematician were given a practical
challenge during an IQ test. Each was given two pots of water and a single
gas burner, and were asked to bring both pots of water to a boil. The
engineer fired up the burner, brought one pot to a boil and set it aside,
then brought the second pot to a boil. The physicist had the room sealed,
then pumped air from the room until the water in both pots boiled. The
mathematician thought for an hour before firing up the burner and bringing
one pot to a boil, then announced that the conclusion followed by an
induction argument.
