Actually, cubic inches WERE substituted long ago by cubic cm or their
liter equivalent... Even at the time of production of the TR.
2 advantages:
a) you have more of them for the same engine
b) you can have an idea the engine capacity by looking at the volume
of any bottle of soda pop. They are now metric (I.e. standard) even
in the US.
