Tossing in my 2 cents....
I've done pretty much the same things, i.e.. pusher fan, and an air
deflector just under the front apron's 'chin' to enhance airflow...
However-one more idea....
I did a smoke test which indicated fan-pushed air was actually
passing through the rad as it should, but then traveling FORWARDS back up
under the apron, and passing through the fan/rad again. Kind of a loop, it
must've been the path of least resistance for the air. To remedy this, I
found some scrap, reasonably thin conveyor belt material made of fairly
stiff vinyl, and made a shroud that attaches to the sides/top of the
radiator, and butts up against the inner fenders ( towards the front a bit.
) this effectively isolates the cool air in the front of the apron from the
hot air in the engine compartment. You can't see it unless you know where to
look, Was it really and truly needed? well, dunno.
I'd already installed a triple row crossflow radiator, which helped a great
deal, but I was SO
P-O'd at the over heating problems I was having, I had decided to do
everything I could think of..... and I live in the northeast; I can't
imagine how you guys in the SWest deal with the car in it's stock
configuration. ( black tape over the temp gauge?)

I will be doing this at some point

This is exactly what I have, I used a Mr.Gasket fan as a pusher. Modified
it also for the crank hole :-)
