I am sure - in theory - they can be, as I believe you can use 87 mm liners & 
pistons in the engine. There may be a technical reason it can't be done, such 
as them not being stable enough to rebore

But as you will have to buy or acquire 87 mm pistons, why not get a set of 
pistons & liners?
