I thought the Spit used the D-type.  But if they are J type they can be
fitted to the TR6 transmission by this simple process (sarcasm alert): 
First completely disassemble your transmission.  Next, acquite a new main
shaft for the J-type overdrive application and reassemble the transmission.
 (Note: you may want to take this opportunity to renew the bearings, seals
and synchros)  It sis at this point that the transmission and overdrive may
be mated.

The short answer is it is not a bolt-on.  But, although it is a lot of
work, it is well worth it.  Especially if you are going to overhaul the
transmission.
