Depends a bit on your definition of 'works better' ... but a turbocharger (which strictly speaking is a form of supercharger) works better in almost every way except throttle response. More power output and better efficiency for any given altitude, engine and fuel; naturally adaptive to some extent; and easier to control to provide adequate boost at altitude without overboosting at sea level.
