Water pump housing color

Two quick ones -- I'm beginning the repaint of my engine and related 
components.  What was the original color of the water pump housing?  Mine is 
black but 
it looks like the PO had taken a spray can to the engine at some point so I 
can't be sure.

Also, does anyone have (or know of) a site with some detailed photos of 
fairly stock engine restoration?  Wouldn't mind getting to review a few before 
breaking out the engine paint.
