     Is the engine newly rebuilt? If so, you may want to check to see if the 
valves were properly
     gapped. I forgot to do this on my TR4 a long time ago and wondered why 
it was so hard to
     crank... I felt really dumb when I found that the valves were barely 
opening at all. The engine
     was fighting its own compression.
