I wouldn't blame the Pertronix so quickly. If you just installed the 
Pertronix and is never worked, doublecheck the installation. But if the 
Pertronix was working and now it's not, go for loose or broken wires or 
connectors. Could be the handling of the wires during the Pertronix 
install broke a brittle old piece. Check the ground wire from the coil, 
and the little wires from the coil to the distributor. They can break 
inside the wire so you should check with a test light to be sure they're 
good. If after that you still suspect the Pertronix, reinstall the 
points. Best luck.
