I see two, or rather three, opportunities here.  Engineering- 
vice anything is possible provided the will power is high enough.

I'd guess a PS rack from a SAAB would be possible to adapt and 
fit into one of the smaller and more cramped TRs.  The 4-6 that 
is... ;-)  The wroomier ones already have PS...

But why put your cousin into one of those little nutshells, and 
doing all that engineering work when there are TRs that already 
have PS from the factory? 
All the TR8s have PS - so no extra work is needed...

And leaving the TR range you can aim on a Stag.  They had PS as 
well - so no extra work is needed...

And leaving the open top two-ish seaters, but staying within the
classic car movement, several of the big Triumph saloons were 
fitted with PS.  So, if aiming for a nice 2.5 PI, most of them 
had PS - no extra work needed... 

My recommendation would be to go for a TR8, they're almost as 
roomy and with comfort as a modern car.  Second to none...
