Can anyone else confirm this news? I heard this at our Spring Run Ralley
with the Central PA Triumph Club. A great day, in the 70s with 25 cars on
the road. This certainly would be an interesting development for the
triumph world.

BBC News

Cowley, Oxfordshire, UK

Richard Branson today announced that his group of companies has purchased
the
name Triumph back from German car firm BMW for 1# Sterling and plans to
reintroduce the brand globally in 2006.

'This needs to happen' stated Branson 'The Triumph name is synonymous with
the
small, fun car and with petrol prices in the US at phenomenal levels the SUV
is
soon to be dead'

Branson's team has stated the first 2 cars off the line will be copies of
the
TR-4A and the TR-8. 'These were 2 of the most fun cars ever made' with
modern
engine control, and new manufacturing technologies this will not only
provide
jobs to this region, it will provide the opportunity for a new generation to
experience the LBC" (little British car, .ed) said Branson.

The plant location is still under wraps as is the final design of the car.
William Maykit Chief Engineer of the project states Oh, you'll know it's a
Triumph, not that we'll say exactly what the product will look like. But
we've
still got the original tooling and with the increased choice for engine
types
and outputs we're looking at the TR-8 to be a serious performer.'
