TR4 rear main cap seal material?

Listers,
All my literature says to pack the rear main bearing cap with felt strips 
soaked in Wellseal.  Fine, except my gasket set has about 8" of cork, not 
felt.  Ok, the gasket set is 10 years old (yeah, this project is taking 
"career" proportions), but I can't imagine that cork is a new substitute 
for felt.

Should I send an order to McMaster or will the cork work?
