I have had the exact same thoughts many, many times! But I always just grit
my teeth and finally got them back together as they were before I started.
Of course I don't know whether any of those brake calipers were installed
correctly before I got the car!!

Subject: TR3A Front Brakes- Shim

I recently had to pull a brake califper off of the TR3. When putting it
back on a struggled with the getting the califper mounting shim in (MOSS
catalog part #582-080). The MOSS catalog says that it "centers calipers on
the
rotors". Seems to me that it doesn't do much except make your life more
difficult. Are these things really necessary? Seems like the caliper get
automatically centered with the brake disk pads adjusting themselves.
Does anyone out there run without them? Probably a lot of people do,
but
don't even know it.
Then again, maybe I won't get a response to this because everyone who
has
tried it has died when their front brakes failed...
     TIA,

     Bill Brewer
