Many have suggested using modern size tires of 205/70-15 on my stock
rims. Will 215s fit and are there any benefits/drawbacks to this size? How
will
using these sizes affect the speedometer reading?
I also lookd up tires on the TireRack website and I think I may go with
Kumhos. I have them on my Audi A6 and love them and you can't argue with the
price ($40 ea). I think I've heard on the list that there are dealers that
can
add a red stripe to the sidewall. The Kumhos happen to have a whitewall. Do
any of you have experience with this or know of a dealer that does this? I
believe TireRack will drop ship the tires to someone to have this done.

I ran 215/65s on KN 15x6 wheels for years with absolutely no clearance
problem whatever - speedo error was considerable - I now have 15x6 American
racing
wheels and I have ordered 215/70s to go on them - I'll know in a couple
weeks how that works out - 215 might be a tad wide for 5.5 in wide stock
wheels
- check the rim width range in the tires you're looking at - also be aware
that not all 215s are created equal - check stats for tread width, for
instance
- tread width on a Firestone 500 215 is almost an inch wider than same size
Firestone Supreme.

There are lots of tire size comparison sites where you can compare sizes and
see speedo errors. here's one:
 _http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html_
(http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html)
only problem is that the original tr6 tire aspect ratio was about 82 or 83
and that's never one of your options to plug into the calculator - but you can
get an idea.

Diamond Back Tire does a great job putting redlines on modern tires - and
they are redlines that stay bright red - unlike the Michelins which generally
get darker.
see _www.dbtires.com_ (http://www.dbtires.com) - but i don't know if
they'll let you send them your tires to do it with -
you'll notice their prices are about 3 times the price of the same tire
(without redline) from TireRack.

Cheers
