Are you showing them your old fuse or just asking over the phone or in 
person?  7.5 amp is a common size in a blade fuse (commonly used in 
modern cars, even available at Safeway), 8 amp is typical for a ceramic 
fuse (used in earlier Vanagons & even Fiats... may only be available at 
an import car parts type of store).

Maybe you know all this, but ISTR you had an 84 Westy which has ceramics 
for most fuses.
