Further to my recent contribution to this thread, other suffixes such as BW 
(auto trans) O 
(overdrive) and SC (estate car / wagon) were also introduced as production 
planning tools. By having 
these additional suffixes, it enabled production planning to continually 
measure special 
requirements for these features and build them into the forward component 
purchasing schedules. The 
constants varied only rarely and were therefore useful aids in ensuring on-site 
component stocks 
were present to support the overall vehicle build programmes.
