[TR] Thread on Fuel tank, TR3

Folks, I'm trying to clean up the threads on the overflow fitting on my TR3 
fuel tank.  I thought it was a 9/16-18 thread but I find out it isn't.  At 
least I can't get the tap started without undue effort.  Can anyone verify 
what this thread is?
